Communication with Schools

Maintaining a positive, respectful relationship with your child’s school can make a significant difference.

Communicate Early: Inform the school as early as possible when a potential booking begins to look likely. Early communication allows time for discussions, planning and paperwork where needed.
Highlight the Wider Learning Experience: Many schools appreciate understanding the educational value of professional work, whether this includes teamwork, discipline, creativity, industry knowledge or subject-specific learning opportunities. There is a template letter to send to a school here.
Ensure your child completes any missed work.
- Long continuous shoots may be a concern for the school due to the level of absences and the time away from school. Production can speak with school about tutoring arrangements.
- Ask the school if it is possible for a package of work. Not all schools will be able to do this. Production can ask the tutor to liaise with the school.
A school letter will be done by the school as quickly as possible. It is not necessary to check each day or multiple times in the same day if the letter is ready.
Changes to DFE coding guidance for schools means that the days absent will be marked as a C1 in the school register. This is an authorised absence. Schools are unable to mark this as a present mark even if tuition is given on production.
