Christmas Message from the NNCEE
As we get closer to Christmas on behalf of the NNCEE National Committee I wanted to say a big thank you for all the work that has gone on this year to help safeguard children in the industry.
The work that we do is so important and the relationships we have with our parents, agents, production and with each other help ensure that children have opportunities to take part in memorable experiences for them.
We celebrated the 30th anniversary of our first AGM in October. It was great to hear at this years anniversay about the plans for the parent and the chaperone questionnaires and how this will form the outlines for the handbooks that are expected in 2026. If you get a few minutes listen to Kate Winsletts’ Desert Island Discs BBC Radio 4 - Desert Island Discs - Nine things we learned from Kate Winslet’s Desert Island Discs and how she was treated as a child star. It shows why our guides are so timely.
It was great to hear how colleagues in the industry also safeguard children and to see the refresh of the NSPCC chaperone training.
We heard an update from colleagues in Welsh Government and I am looking forward to attending the Welsh Conference in February next year.
I have also made some links with Scottish Government and we continue to work closely with our colleagues from the DfE and whilst we said goodbye to Matt we now have Dawn, Lucy and Hester to link with at the DfE.
Hopefully 2026 will also see the Children Wellbeing and Schools Bill become law and that should give us updated child employment legislation, something we have been advocating for for a long time. That will of course mean a lot of work needs to be done rather quickly to get everyone up to speed but it will be exciting times.
If you are off over the next couple of weeks we hope you have a well deserved break and I hope you all can reflect on how you play a part in making life long memories for children in the industry.
Thank you again for everything you do to safeguard children and we look forward to the exciting things coming in 2026.
Nadolig Llawen, Joyeux Noel, Nollaig Chridheil, Blythe Yuletide, Nollick Ghennal, Nadelik Lowen,
Nollaig Shona Daoibh and Happy Christmas.
